Burlap and Satin

Another dozen LPs to add to the growing stack, with what reads like a Dolly Parton clunker based on AllMusic's review. I was swayed by a profile in Word or Uncut, and the observation that a lot of her strong albums have tacky sleeves, like White Limozeen. In this case, tacky sleeve, tacky album.

The Cost of Loving Vinyl

Style Council - The Cost of Loving [JA] £1. A double-45RPM album mastered by Jack Adams. AllMusic indicates that its slick soul-pop - darn. It looks like the first five albums are the ones to pick up. To pay off the title of this post, the cost of loving vinyl is that often curiosity and the appeal of cheap, 'audiophile' recordings, encourage follies like this purchase. After reading Robert Wyatt's plug for The Style Council in Mojo's Paul Weller feature this month, I've determined to pick up all those Style Council albums. Previously, I'd focused just on The Jam, but the Style Council records are available for peanuts, so a low risk experiment.

Echo and the Bunnymen - S/T [German] £2

Fleetwood Mac - S/T [Allen] 50p

Jesus Jones - Right Here, Right Now [12", 1u/1us] 50p

Supertramp - Crime of the Century [Tone] £1. Given the hype around the Speakers Corner reissue of this title, I figured I'd audition a standard UK pressing to see how I like the content before investing $30.
