Beth Carvalho - Beth (RCA Brazil 1986)

Ah, what a wonderful, unexpected find. Mid-80s Brazilian pop often yielded synth-driven, lackluster material and cheesey covers (this cover is no exception). Beth Carvahlo's self titled album "Beth" (RCA Brazil 1986) is old school samba, breezy, recalling whatever quality keeps bringing me back to Black Orpheus. This Brazilian pressing was 99c, and I've played it a lot in recent months. The sonics on this LP are warm and engrossing. While I've yet to A/B a Brazilian versus a US pressing, they clearly did a fine job on many titles.
This is also one of her albums that has been neglected by Allmusic.com and barely touched upon in discographies. Looks like it was reissued on CD in 2001.
